Samuel “Sam” Putzke, 67, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Sam’s wishes were to be cremated., He will be laid to rest at the Dayton Cemetery Mausoleum, in the spring of 2023, where his ashes will be placed with his parents, Harris and Lillian Putzke. Samuel Elsen Putzke was born on December 22, 1954, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Harris and Lillian (Gustafson) Putzke, and grew up on the Putzke farm in Dayton. He attended special education schools in Duncombe. Many years later he learned to ride a bicycle. Born with Down Syndrome, yet the happiest man in Webster County. In the past few years Sam became a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease.
He greatly enjoyed life at Northwoods Assisted Living (One Vision) as he had a job, food, shelter, friends, entertainment, and even a dog. The staff at One Vision was his family. He had many entries in Special Olympics, took field trips for eating out, bowling, local parades, and other activities. His life gave compassion for others with the same issues. Sam was “Putzke” tough with a strong work ethic. Sam loved everyone and greeted people with huge hugs. He was happy watching tv and playing power rangers. His favorite food was pop and McDonalds. Sam attended Church in Fort Dodge and also belonged to the United Methodist Church in Dayton.
Sam is truly missed by his sister, Mary Putzke Vaughan and her husband, Carl of Ocala, FL; and his brother, Harley Putzke of Gowrie, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
