Shirley Urelius

Shirley June Urelius, 63, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, was called home on Saturday, December 14, 2013, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., December 18, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Craig Vote & Rev. Dr. Karen Young will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Following the services, Shirley will be cremated. Shirley June Luckenbill was born on March 16, 1950, the daughter of Bill and June (Lewis) Luckenbill in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended schools in Fort Dodge and Burnside and went on to attend Iowa Central Community College.

Shirley was united in marriage to John David Urelius Sr. on December 17, 1965. Together they made their home in the Fort Dodge/Burnside/Dayton area. Shirley was a woman of many talents. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved to spend time with all of them. Shirley enjoyed baking goodies of all kinds to share with everyone and was famous for making Oostakaka and Rye bread. She loved gardening, canning, and tending to her flower garden. Shirley loved to baby-sit her grandchildren and volunteered wherever she could. She was the most precious and loving older sister God ever could have given. A caregiver by nature, always giving to others. She was an incredible loving Aunt. She LOVED the Lord.

Survivors include her husband, John David Urelius Sr.; three children, John David Urelius Jr. (Stacey Christensen), Robin (Harold) Graves, and Jeremy (Tiffany) Urelius, all of Fort Dodge; eleven grandchildren, Lacie (Dave) Casey, Dillion, Karissa and Dalton Urelius, Austin, Ethan, Brady, and Anastasia Graves, Andrew, Hope, and Logan Urelius; two great grandchildren, Payton Urelius, and Katielynn Casey; her parents, Bill and June Luckenbill; four sisters, Deb Remsburg, Sandy (Jobart) VandenHaak, Jean Mentzer, and Brenda Bouma; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael, granddaughter, Serenity Urelius, maternal and paternal grandparents, her mother and father-in-law, Glenn and Verna Urelius, a nephew, Bruce Maguire, and several aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
