Sidney L. Sandholm

Sidney Sandholm, 81, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2009, surrounded by his family, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2009, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Rev. Stan Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Sidney Leroy Sandholm was born on November 12, 1927, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Myrtle (Richey) Sandholm. He graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1945. Following his education, Sid served his country in the United States Army for a brief period of time. Sid was united in marriage to Marilyn Urelius. The couple established their home in Dayton where Sid owned and operated Sandholm Real Estate and Sandholm Insurance for over 50 years.

Sid belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton where he served on the church council. He also served on the Webster County Conservation Board, the Dayton Rodeo and Celebration Committee, the Community Center Board, and the Dayton Light and Power Board. He also belonged to the Dayton Community Club and the Dayton Lions. Sid was a passionate booster for the Dayton Community.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Sandholm of Dayton, Iowa; two sons, Gary (Loretta) Sandholm of Webster City, Iowa, and Brent (Barb) Sandholm of Fort Dodge, Iowa; one daughter, Kathy Tener of Johnston, Iowa; five grandchildren, Richard Tener of San Francisco, California, Elizabeth Tener of Iowa City, Iowa, Shannon Sandholm of Reno, Nevada, Melissa Sandholm of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Brandon Sandholm of Harcourt, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Sandholm; and his sister, Rosalie Engman.

Memorials may be left to either: Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton or the Dayton Area Community Fund.
