Sophronia Maxine Hager

S. Maxine Hager, 88, of DeSoto, Iowa, and formerly of Ogden passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden. Father Ross Coniglia will officiate. Private family burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Ogden. Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden has been entrusted with arrangements.

Sophronia Maxine Hager born on April 2, 1932, in Glendale, Missouri, the daughter of T. Sherman and Edith (Abbott) Mullins. She graduated with the Centerville High School class of 1950.

On April 2, 1959, Maxine was united in marriage to E.J. “Willie” Hager in Centerville, Iowa. Maxine was a homemaker and worked for Ogden Community Schools as a crossing guard for many years. E.J. passed away on August 15, 1995.

Maxine was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden where she was active in many church activities including Rosary Society and singing in the choir. She enjoyed playing guitar and genealogy research.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, E.J. Hager, six brothers, Jack Mullins, Cyril Mullins, Webb Mullins, Lester Mullins, Boyd Mullins, and Doral Mullins, and four sisters, Rosalee Van Dyke, Bonnie K. Mullins, Edith Mullins, and Sally Staley.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Rochholz of DeSoto, Iowa; two sons, Doug Hager of Boxholm, Iowa and Greg Hager of Ogden, Iowa; five grandchildren, Alex Rochholz, Evan Hager, Dillon Hager, Brandon Hager and Sophronia Hager; one great grandson; one brother, Bill Mullins of Hannibal, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the Hager family asks that memorials may be left to Hospice of the Midwest, 9203 Northpark Drive, Johnston, IA. 50131 in memory of Maxine.
