Stanley Paulson

Stan Paulson, 66, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Stanley Merlin Paulson, son of Merlin & Audre (Lindahl) Paulson was born on October 8, 1948. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Ogden. Stan was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church there. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1967. While in school, he participated in football & track. He was also an active member of the Westside Hustlers 4h Club. Stan graduated from Iowa State University in February of 1972 with a Degree in Animal Science. Upon graduation, he returned to Ogden to farm. While at ISU, he met Jan Ryerson and they were married on December 2, 1972. They were blessed with three sons, Ben, John, and Adam. While in Ogden, Stan served on various community committees and church roles. He later worked for local businesses, and Coop elevators in Slater, Grundy Center, and Marble Rock, Iowa. For a time he was an over-the-road truck driver followed by working as a terminal manager of a trucking company in Minneapolis, Louisville, Kentucky, and Des Moines. He returned to Iowa in July of 2013 to be closer to family.

Stan enjoyed playing cards at family get togethers, traveling with his sons to various countries, and spending time with family and friends. He will be lovingly remembered for his laugh, quick smile, and his generosity. To Stan, he never knew a stranger. His greatest joys in life were his sons, their wives, and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, sister, Claudia in 1999, brother-in-law, Everett in 2013, two grandchildren, Macy in March of 2014, and Aidan in October of 2014.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, Ben (Christa) and daughter Daphne, of West Des Moines, John (Beth) and sons Anthony and Christopher of Cedar Falls, and Adam (Kara) and daughters, Natalie and Emry of Grimes; parents, Merlin and Audre Paulson of Ogden; sister, Peg (Kurt) Soderstrum of Boone; nieces, Sara Shepherd of Stuart, Jamie Soderstrum of Coon Rapids, Erin Soderstrum of Wayne, Nebraska, and Jessie Soderstrum of Iowa Falls; nephew, Greg (Aimee) Shepherd and sons Caleb, Silas, and Ethan of Mt. Pleasant. Also his work family and friend JC, and many other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
