Stanley R. Friesen

Stanley R. Friesen, 69, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Community United Methodist Church. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of the arrangements

Stanley Robert Friesen was born on June 17, 1942, in Hood River, Oregon, the son of Rev. Leland and Margaret (Galt) Friesen. He received his education in Emery South Dakota, graduating with the Emery High School class of 1960, and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in 1964, and his Master's Degree in 1967, from the University of South Dakota (Vermillion). Stan taught school in Vermillion, South Dakota for three years before moving to Alton, Iowa, where he taught and served as the Floyd Valley High School Principal for the three years. In 1970, Stan moved to Ogden where he served as the Ogden High School Principal for the next 34 years until retiring in 2004.

Stan was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Glewwe on June 13, 1974, in St. Paul, Minnesota. To this union two children were born: Nathan and Rachel.

Stan enjoyed traveling, planning trips, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was instrumental in starting the Ogden High School Sr. class trip which is now in its 40th year. Education and working with people of all ages were important to him. Stan was active in several church, school, and community projects, and was currently serving as the Ogden Community School Board President.

Among the survivors are his wife Sandra Friesen of Ogden, Iowa; two children, Nathan (Janette) Friesen of Janesville, Iowa, and Rachel (Bryce) Carlson of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren, Ellie and Evan Friesen and Wesley Carlson; his mother, Margaret Friesen of Indianola, Iowa; two brothers, Charles Friesen of Talent, Oregon, and Larry (Judy) Friesen of Blaine, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Friesen, and a brother, Roger Friesen

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden, or to a scholarship to be established in Stan's name.
