Susan Adella Scott, 96, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Following services Susan's wishes were to be cremated.
Born September 21, 1915 five miles south of Ogden on the family farm, she moved to Ogden at age one. At Ogden High School she played clarinet and viola, sang in choir, and went to State in dramatic speaking. After graduating from OHS in 1933, she attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines and was a member of Alpha Iota honorary society and played basketball.
After graduating she worked as a secretary for two years then went on to study nursing at Ravenwood Hospital Medical Center in Chicago. She graduated in 1939 and worked as a visiting nurse on the South side of Chicago, then as a supervisor in the nursery at Englewood Hospital, Chicago. She married Lt. Senior Grade R.C. Crane. In 1942 her daughter Pat was born and the family traveled during the war. Sue returned to Ogden in 1945 to work as the School Nurse and at Boone Co. Hospital for 15 years. She was president of the Ogden Business Women's Garden Club and Bridge Club. She was Circle Chairman for many years.
In Eastern Star she served as Worthy Matron of the Ogden Chapter #348 in 1950. She was also a grand page and leader of the drill team. Helped organize and was first Mother Advisor of Ogden Rainbow for girls. She received the grand cross of colors. General Grand Chapter awarded the Rose Medallion to her January 6, 1994. She had duel membership in Faithful Chapter, Woodward and Magi Chapter, Boone and served as an officer in each after entering the residential section of the O.E.S. in Boone. She served in all health organizations.
Sue married Ralph A. Scott April 1, 1954. She was an Elected Fellow in the American School of Health Association in May 1961. Served in Health & Services organizations and received the outstanding achievement award for community service from R.S.V.P. 1999. She was also president of the Boone Co. T.B. Association and Cancer Society. She also worked at the Ogden Grain Co. Sue helped plan Ogden's 100-year reunion. She was responsible for class names and pictures of graduating classes and annuals until she moved to the residential section of the O.E.S. Home in Boone.
She enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle and square dancing. Sue and her husband Ralph enjoyed many trips abroad.
Her grandparents, parents, husband "Scotty", and three brothers, Le Roy, Glenn and Roger preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Pat and Carl Cook, grandson and his wife Scott and Allyson Cook, and their son Andrew, granddaughter and her husband Carla and Taylor Tidgren and their daughters Andie and Cidney, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
