Thelma G. Knopf, 95, of Lehigh, Iowa, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Michael Standfest will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.
Thelma Grace Hewitt was born on January 30, 1914, in Livermore, Iowa, the daughter of Hiram and Clarice (Stoddard) Hewitt. She attended schools in the area of her birth. Thelma was united in marriage to Paul J. Knopf on June 17, 1932, in LuVerne, Iowa. The couple lived in Algona until moving to Lehigh in 1946. Thelma worked as a cook in the Dayton Community Schools and later at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Paul passed away on June 30, 1967. Thelma moved to Grandview Health Care Center in May of 2008.
Thelma belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. She enjoyed her dog Daisy, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Gene (Mary) Knopf of Dayton, Iowa, Phyllis (Gerald) Linn of Boone, Iowa, Shirley Petersen of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sharon (Tom) Fortune of Lehigh, Iowa, Gary Knopf of Lehigh, Iowa, Sandi (Doug) Jobe of Bear, Delaware, Linda (Charles) Lundquist of San Antonio, Texas, and Richard (Mary) Knopf of Eva Beach, Hawaii; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; four sisters, Donna Stamper, Marge Wendt, and Beverly Halsrud all of Humboldt, Iowa, and Nadine Wolfe of West Bend, Iowa; and one brother, Dick Hewitt of LuVerne, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul J. Knopf; four brothers, Daryl, Gerald, Cecil, and Everett Hewitt; and six sisters, Fern, Evelyn, Violet, Lucille, Dorothy, and Gladys.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
