Thomas J. McDonald, 72 of Boone, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden with Father Jim Bruch and Pastor Beth Bachman Caulfield officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden. Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013, in St. Mary's Cemetery in Keota, Iowa. Tom McDonald, the son of Bill and Edith (Schauenberg) McDonald, was born October 28, 1941 in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Keota High School in 1959 and graduated from Iowa State University in 1964 with a Civil Engineering degree.

After his graduation from ISU, Tom worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation until his retirement in January of 1998. That same month he went to work for Iowa State University in the Center for Transportation Research and Education, now In Trans where he was employed at the time of his death. Tom lived in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Ames, Fairfield and currently in Boone.

On June 13, 1998, Thomas married Judy Lindebak Torgeson at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Ames.

Tom was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden, was active in two bible study groups and taught confirmation class at St. John's. Tom was also active at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church with his wife. Tom loved hunting deer, geese and ducks in his free time.

Survivors include his wife, Judy McDonald of Boone; children, Lisa McDonald of Aurora, CO, Scott McDonald of Houston, TX, Laura Custer of Aurora, CO and Molly Green Ruestas (Luis) of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Collin Custer, Stella Green Ruestas and Oliver Green Ruestas; step children, Dawn Skinner (Paul) of Athens, GA and Sheri Severseike (Jim) of Radcliffe; step grandchildren, Ben and Alison Skinner and Branden and Nathan Severseike; brother, Michael McDonald (Sue) of Keota and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be left to the Bliss Cancer Center, 1111 Duff Ave, Ames, Iowa 50010 or the Israel Family Hospice House, 400 South Dakota Ave., Ames, Iowa 50014.
