V. Elaine Bork, 90, of Ogden, Iowa, died Sunday evening, January 3, 2010, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden. Rev. Gordon Lundberg will officiate. Burial will be at Swede Valley Cemetery rural Ogden. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of the arrangements
Velma Elaine Tiemens was born on May 17, 1919, in Platte, South Dakota, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Munneke) Tiemens. She was a graduate of Platte High School, and earned degrees from Central College in Pella, Iowa and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Elaine was united in marriage to M.G. "Jim" Bork on June 7, 1942, in Coggon, Iowa. Elaine and Jim farmed southeast of Ogden for many years. Elaine taught school in the Ogden School District for 30 years. Most of those years were at Howe Elementary. In 1984, the couple retired and moved into Ogden. Jim passed away on March 23, 1994. In March of 2009, Elaine moved to the Eastern Star Masonic Home, in Boone.
Elaine was a longtime member of Swede Valley and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, church activities and winning Phase 10 card games.
Survivors include her, son Byron (Suzanne) Bork of Coralville, Iowa; daughter,
Jo Hutchins of Ogden, Iowa; four grandchildren, Bennett Bork, Maia Bork Foust (Jason Foust), Jeff Loucks (Lindsay Ede), and Jeni (John) Livingston; five great grandchildren; her twin sister, Vivien Barto of Emporia, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.G. "Jim" Bork, her parents, one brother, Herman Tiemens; one sister, Bertha Renshaw; and her son-in-law, Robert Hutchins.
Memorials may be left to either: Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Swede Valley Lutheran Church Preservation Fund, 119 Southwest 2nd St., Ogden, Iowa 50212.
