Verna L. Urelius

Verna L. Urelius, 94, of the Grandview Care Center in Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. Pastor Bob Henkelman will officiate. Entombment will be in the Dayton Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Verna Lorena Lilyard was born in Burnside Township, Webster County, Iowa, on November 17, 1916, the second daughter of Floyd and Rosalie (Fors) Lilyard. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. Verna graduated with the Burnside Consolidated High School class of 1934, and Tobin Business College in 1936. Following her education, Verna worked at Cutchall Motors in Fort Dodge. On August 4, 1940, Verna was united in marriage to Glenn Norman Luther Urelius at the First Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge by Rev. E.J. Carlson. Verna and Glenn had lived in Dayton and Boxholm prior to moving to Glenn's family farm near Palm Grove, Iowa, where they farmed for almost 60 years. Glenn passed away on February 12, 2005, at the time of his passing Verna and Glenn were married for 64 years. In November of 2005, Verna moved to the Grandview Apartments in Dayton. In December of 2009, Verna returned to the family farm where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, David and Shirley Urelius until May of 2010 when she moved into the Grandview Care Center.

Verna was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. And both she and Glenn were very active in the church for many years.

Survivors include her son, John David Urelius Sr., and his wife, Shirley of Fort Dodge, Iowa; three grandchildren, John David Urelius Jr. and special friend Stacey Christensen, Robin Raena and her husband, Harold Graves III, and Jeremy Glenn and his wife, Tiffany, all of Fort Dodge; eleven great grandchildren, Lacie Christine, Dillion John, Karissa Lorena, and Dalton David Marion Urelius, Anastasia Lynn, Austin Alexander, Ethan Zachary, and Brady Mitchell Graves, Andrew Glenn, and Hope Ellen, and Logan Luther Dean Urelius; and one great-great grandson, Payton John Urelius; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Viola Carlson; her husband, Glenn; and a niece, Linda Carlson Johnson.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
