Verna Hagge, 100, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, August 20, 2012, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2012, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Pastor Michael Standfest will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Verna Marie McVicker was born on September 25, 1911, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Alexander and Ellen (Bennett) McVicker. She graduated with the Boone High School class of 1930. Following her education Verna worked at a hosiery factory in Boone. On October 19, 1931, Verna was united in marriage to Paul William Hagge. To this union three children were born: Paul "Gary", Jay, and Douglas. Verna and Paul farmed in the Ogden and Dayton area until retiring. Paul passed away on April 11, 1982.
Verna belonged to the Dayton Dreamers and Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Guild and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and oil painting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Hagge; son, Jay Hagge; great grandson, Paul Richard Hagge; four brothers; and three sisters.
Among the survivors are two sons, Paul "Gary" (Lucille) Hagge of Dayton, Iowa, and Douglas (Joyce) Hagge of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, as well as many great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families.
