Verne L. Stumbo, 94, of rural Boone, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the Perry Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Bethel Church, rural Boone. Pastor Josh McFarland will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Verne Leroy Stumbo was born on September 26, 1922, in Boone County, Iowa, the son of Walton and Hazel (Francis) Stumbo. He attended Lake City Country School and Boone High School. He had a bad skating accident and couldn't finish school.
On July 22, 1944, Verne was united in marriage to Margaret Samuelson. The couple moved to their present homestead in March of 1946. Verne was a farmer all of his life with his brother, Francis. He also drove semi-truck for Wenger Trucking, hauling livestock to Chicago. Verne was a member of Bethel Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn (Doug) MacPherson of Marion, Iowa, grandchildren, Chris (Andrea) MacPherson of Anamosa, Iowa, and Beth Miller of Swisher, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Paige and Cameron Miller, Jamee Berggren, and Brendee Gerdes; and one great-great-grandson, Jimmy.
His parents, an infant daughter, wife Margaret Stumbo in 1997, one brother, and two sisters, preceded him in death.
