Virgil Bruce Tungesvik

January 16, 1952 — July 20, 2019

Virgil B. Tungesvik, 67, passed away at his home in Iowa City on Saturday morning, July 20, 2019.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the Community United Methodist Church Ogden. Pastor Mike Ellson will officiate. Burial will be at the Pilot Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Community United Methodist Church.

Virgil Bruce Tungesvik was born on January 16, 1952, at Story City Memorial Hospital, Story City, Iowa, to Silas and Alice (Moon) Tungesvik. He grew up on the family farm in Radcliffe, and graduated with the Roland Story High School class of 1970, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football. He went on to attend and graduated from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.

On May 17, 1975, Virgil was united in marriage to Vickie Larson at the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church. Two children were born to this union.

Virgil worked at Land O Lakes in Ellsworth and Des Moines for a total of 17 years. He retired from Con-Way Freight in Des Moines after 25 years of service, and from the Air National Guard after 21 years of service.

Virgil and Vickie lived in the Colo community for 39 years before moving to their acreage in Iowa City in 2014.

He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, basketball, playing with his grandchildren, and traveling with his wife Vickie and his family. He served as a volunteer fire fighter for 23 years.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Vickie Tungesvik of Iowa City, IA; son, Scott (Danelle) Tungesvik of The Woodlands, TX; and daughter, Kelly (Valera) Petrulevich of North Liberty, IA; four grandsons, Oliver, Cooper, and Sawyer Petrulevich, and Ethan Tungesvik; one brother, Carroll (Judy) Tungesvik; one sister, Betty Gordon; his sister-in-law, Mary Jo Tungesvik; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marilyn Reisetter, one brother, Loren Tungesvik, and a brother-in-law, Jack Gordon.
