Virgil Erwin Krueger was born on November 12, 1941, in Glencoe, MN. He was the fifth of ten children born to Ernst & Malinda (Hafermann) Krueger. He attended schools in Arlington, MN and often shared that he was the ‘smartest and dumbest kid in his class,’ since he was the only student in his grade for several years while attending a one room school house. Following graduation, he joined the Army and served in Korea for a short time.

On July 2, 1966, Virgil was united in marriage to Arlys Oelke in Lester Prairie, MN.

In 1974, they moved to Ogden when Virgil was transferred by Lester Buildings to oversee projects in Iowa. Over the years he was site foreman for various construction companies and retired from Passport Construction of Des Moines in February 2004. When not working construction, he was the ‘chief donut maker’ at Krueger’s Kitchen which he and his wife Arlys owned for many years. Virgil loved his grandchildren and spent many hours watching them play baseball, basketball, wrestle or any other activity they were involved including helping with math homework. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting the casinos, and completing suduko games.

Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlys, on May 13, 2017, grandson Josh Germain, and brother Orville Krueger.

Among the survivors are two sons, Mitchell (Kari) Krueger of Manson, Iowa, and Charles (Misty) Krueger of Boone, Iowa; and one daughter, Stacy (Gary) Lewis of Boone, Iowa; eight grandchildren Nathan Krueger of Sioux City, Becca (Dalton) Hogan of Manson, Chris Krueger of Manson, Ryan Germain (Brylie Reed) of Boone, Joe Germain (Kelsey) of Polk City, Mackenzie Lewis of Plymouth, MN, Jake Lewis of Boone, Iowa; six great grandchildren Coldon, Logan, Chloey, Cole, Nolan and Marlee; Brothers Darwin (Vangie), Ray (Lucille), Kenny (Marlene), Harlan (Barb), and Ron (Pam) Krueger; Sisters Elvera (Herb) Timm, Leona (Lowell) Thomas, and Maryls Mayfield; Sister-in Law Doris Kosek and LaRane Krueger; and Brother’s in Law Ray Heimkes and Larry Oelke; and many nieces & nephews.
