D. Wayne Ankenbauer, 80, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Wayne's wishes were to be cremated. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden. Father James Bruch will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m., at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden. Delbert Wayne Ankenbauer was born October 15, 1933 near Dedham, Carroll County, Iowa to Glen and Lydia (Terry) Ankenbauer. He attended Evergreen country school near Dedham and started high school in Coon Rapids. He graduated from Jamaica High School in 1952. Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1953 and served in Alaska until he was discharged in the spring of 1955.

Wayne was united in marriage to Patricia McDermott on September 3, 1955 at St. Joseph's Church, Jamaica, Iowa. Wayne worked construction in Des Moines until he started in farming in January 1957 on a farm northwest of Jamaica. In 1961, the family moved to a farm northwest of Beaver, Iowa where he farmed until retiring in January 2001. Wayne and Patricia moved from the farm into Ogden in 1990. Wayne and Patricia enjoyed playing cards with several clubs in the Jamaica, Beaver, and Ogden areas. Wayne was an avid ISU men's basketball fan from the 1980s to the present.

Wayne was preceded in death by his son Paul in 2012, his parents Glen and Lydia Ankenbauer, and his sister Bethene Durbin.

He is survived by his wife Patricia of Ogden; daughter Mary Nidetz of Thousand Oaks, California; daughter-in-law Jamie Ankenbauer of Coralville, Iowa; three sons, Joe (Penny) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Bob (Mary) of Portage, Michigan; Bruce of Simpsonville, South Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Kyle, Kacie, Kate (Ryan) Hier, Tom, Lucy, Mary, Matthew, Jonathan, Jacob, Jack, Hailey, Colin; brother-in-law Dale (Helen) Durbin; sisters-in-law, Dolores Hankins, Barbara McDermott, Maurece McCool; brothers-in-law Patrick (Harriett) McDermott, and Harvey Linder.
