William "Bill" Porter, 94, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, surrounded by his family at the Boone County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Bethel Church, rural Boone. Pastor Josh McFarland will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Boone Veteran's Council. Visitation will Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. William Oliver Porter was born on April 17, 1924, in Boone County, Iowa, the son of Elster and Olive (Clark) Porter. Bill attended Ogden schools. Following his education, Bill served his country in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Bunker Hill
Bill was united in marriage to Arlene Allen. They were blessed with five children, Kathy, Kris, Mike, Mary and Craig.
Bill was employed as an operator at Northern Natural Gas Company for many years until retiring.
Bill was a member of Bethel Church. Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing, and woodworking.
Survivors include his children, Kathy (Brad) Allen of Boone, Iowa, Kris Peppels of Boone, Iowa, Mike (Penny Lou) Porter of Livermore, Iowa, Mary McGrane of Superior, Arizona, and Craig (Maggie) Porter of Des Moines, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Julia (Mel) Meyers of Ogden, Iowa, and Jeanne Majoros of Ames, Iowa; two brothers, James (Betty) Porter of Tehachapi, California, and Max (Alice) Porter of Ogden, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Shirley Porter of Perry, Iowa, and Jeanie Porter of Boone, Iowa, and Etta Mae Daniels of Pilot Mound, Iowa; brother-in-law, Art Allen of Boone, Iowa; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene on July 6, 1978, two brothers, Lawrence Porter and Donald Porter, one sister, Anita Peters, a son-in-law, Larry Peppels, grandson, Shane Porter, and his granddaughter, Marcy Porter
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
