Wilmer "Bill" Kieffer, 55, of Ogden, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, at the age of 55 years and one day.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden. Father James Bruch will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Ogden. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at St. John's Catholic Church. Wilmer J. Kieffer was born on April 11, 1961, in Boone, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Dorothy (Heman) Kieffer.
He attended Ogden Schools and graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1979, where he was an All-State football player.
Bill attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls before joining the United States Army in 1981. He served 22 years in the Army and the Iowa National Guard. Bill was employed by the Great Plains Locating Co. until suffering a stroke in December of 2004. Bill lived his last 10 years at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown under the care of his second family.
Bill is survived by his father, Tom Kieffer of Ogden, Iowa; one sister, Mary Jo (Tom) Hromatka of Urbandale, Iowa; and five brothers, Bob (Lisa) Kieffer of Ogden, Iowa, Jim (Linda) Kieffer of Spencer, Iowa, Tom (Michelle Laughman) Kieffer of Urbandale, Iowa, Steve (Traci) Kieffer of Ogden, Iowa, and Don (Alison) Kieffer of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; fifteen nieces and nephews; three grand nephews and one grand niece.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Kieffer in 2014.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Iowa Veterans Home.
